I can't believe it’s almost August! Kids are back to school in just a few weeks! And as we transition into the cozier months of Fall and Winter 2024, it's time to chat about the latest fabric theme trends that we'll be seeing a lot of, according to Spoonflower. If you remember, we talked about some gorgeous color trends a while back—think warm, earthy tones and deep rich shades. With a couple unexpected “pops” of vibrant color!

Let's dive into how these colors are inspiring fabric themes this season!

Chefcore

•  Think fun and whimsical with pops of unexpected color, kitchen elements, food items and how they can add playful elements to patterns.

Coquette / Hyperfeminine / Girlhood

• “Gen Z’s move to reclaim hyperfemininity continues throughout this year by remixing past motifs and bringing in soft vintage florals in bright pinks.”

Circus Act

• The circus is a place to both escape to and be immersed in as it delivers delight, bold colors and surprise. An example of this is Wendy from Chair Whimsey’s cabin decor. She has a whole series on how she transformed a cabin (room by room) with a "Circus Chic" theme, really cute! Here’s the link:

• Think bold harlequin prints and stripes in new colorways and theatrical designs pairing traditional circus reds with black and white.

Chaos Collages

• The design chaos of the 80s is alive and well this fall, mixing hand-drawn characters with squiggles, doodles and words.

• Let chaos reign by embracing quickly drawn graffiti and outsider art elements in prints that mix and celebrate imperfection, individuality and quirk.  This makes me think of the intro to “In Living Color”,  remember that old sitcom? 🤣

Along with the broader trends above, Spoonflower is also seeing a few additional trends coming up related to:

 • Sloths

• Aliens

• Dragons

Actually it would be really fun to see Santa's sleigh being pulled by a red-nosed dragon!

Holiday 2024 Trends

Festive Foods

This follows the whole Chefcore trend, food-inspired gifts and accessories are proving to be a hit for the holidays. Use the cherished Candyland game as inspiration, paired with nostalgic snacks and sweet treats to accomplish this trend. Don’t forget about festive fruits, citrus, baked goods and traditional desserts from around the globe to incorporate in the form of trinkets and ornaments too.

Merry and Dark

Design with darkness this holiday. Deep, dark browns, greens and charcoal grays bring a twist to the season. Pair designs with shiny materials, wood finishes and rich textures to bring holiday magic to an elevated place setting or surface. Think about monochromatic glam with retro elements and sleek materials for a modern, more maximalist look.

“Ho Ho Hot Pink”

Flock to pink as the dollhouse trend continues to transcend into the holidays. Hot pinks bring renewed energy to traditional and timeless this time of year. Lean into playful palettes and fresh brights for more joy to the world through candy stripes, tabletop trees and renowned reindeer.

Island Holiday

Coastal goes more tropical with the Island Holiday trend this year. Think like snowbirds who fly south for inspiration from warm-weather escapes. Tropical florals, jungle cats, island wildlife, coastal creatures and palm trees expand the typical beach theme into something more relevant for this season.

Circus Christmas  (yes, Circus again!)

Wander into a Circus Christmas by using key icons you’d find under the tent from drummer sets, performers and parades. This trend is an escape from reality, showing off classic red and white patterns that are renewed with pops of brighter colors for the holidays to make them more festive.

All of these trends are from Spoonflower and are a great “jumping off” point for how you see your Fall & Winter decor ideas taking shape.

What do you think of these trends? While I may not be on-board with all of them, it’s always fun and interesting to see what people do with them!

Happy decorating, and let's make this season as warm and beautiful as the fabrics we love! ✨

I would love to know your favorite trends or how you're incorporating these fabrics into your space. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Warm hugs,

Beth
