Hey Sewers & Decorators!

It's only 6 months out from that magical time of year again! As Christmas approaches, there’s nothing quite like adding personal touches to your home and Etsy shop/Booth with handmade decor. Not only does it create a warm, festive atmosphere, but it also gives you the perfect excuse to dive into some fun sewing projects.

Let’s chat about a few fabulous ideas to make your home & shop merry and bright this season!

Handmade Stockings

Nothing says Christmas like a row of beautifully crafted stockings hanging over the fireplace. Personalize each stocking with different fabrics, colors, and embellishments for every personality. Plus, they make for charming decorations even when they’re empty!

Christmas Tree Skirts

A lovely tree skirt can really set off your Christmas tree. Choose a fabric that complements your ornaments and lights. Go for classic reds and greens or mix it up with modern patterns and colors. Don’t forget to add a bit of trim or some appliqué for that extra festive touch!

Festive Pillows

Switch out your regular throw pillows for some holiday-themed ones. Think coordinating plaids, festive florals, or fun holiday prints. They’re a quick way to change up  decor and make your space feel cozy and inviting.

Placemats and Napkins

Dress up your holiday table with handmade placemats and napkins. Mix and match fabrics to create a fun and unique look. Whether you go for elegant or whimsical, handmade table settings will impress your guests and add a special touch to your meals. I pull these out as soon as the Christmas tree is up...right after Thanksgiving.

Tablecloths

A beautiful tablecloth can set the stage for your entire dining room. Choose a fabric that complements your placemats and napkins for a cohesive look.

Chair Skirts

A personal favorite! Adding skirts to your dining chairs can elevate your holiday decor to the next level. It’s a little touch that makes a big difference! Check out this tutorial from Miss Mustard Seed...you can see how she does it and adjust to your personal style... I want to try it with a tailored box pleat...

Cozy Dog Beds

This is my latest obsession! Don't forget about your furry friends! A comfy, festive dog bed can keep them snug and part of the holiday fun. Here’s a great and not at all complicated tutorial...

The only thing I would add is to sew piping along the top seam, to elevate the whole look...as well as “frame” the pattern you pick for the bed.

This will absolutely be the "hit" of any gift giving...as well as in your shop.

How cute would it be to have an adorable pet bed under the tree with a coordinating tree skirt or by the fireplace with new coordinating stockings “hung with care”!

I would love to stage a living room with all these ideas!

So, put on some Christmas music (as crazy as that sounds 🤣) and start planning ahead for a charming handmade Christmas.  Each piece you make adds a bit more love and personality to your home & shop.
